Regionals / Yankee Championships
Yankee will be holding Championship tournaments for many levels. Below is all the information you will need to prepare for Championships, including the schedule for each of the tournaments.
Registration Page
The registration page with all rules and guidelines can be found here. In addition, the information below will call out some important details to follow.
When Do I Need To Sign Up By?
Unlike normal tournaments, you can't wait until the last moment to sign up for Championships. Your completed and paid registration must be received by April 17th to guarantee a spot in the tournament.
After registering your team, you have until April 28th to contact the Championships Coordinator if you wish to back out and still receive a full refund.
On May 3rd (just before the start of the Championship tournaments), all checks will be deposited.
Do I Need To Provide A Down Ref?
YES. In addition to an Accredited R2 ("down ref"), you will also need to provide an
Accredited scorekeeper. To become an accredited R2/scorekeeper, you'll need to take and pass
online tests beforehand:
- Scorekeeper Test
- R2 Test
The password for both tests is "NEP554"
Will Male Back Row Attacks Be Allowed In The Coeds?
For ALL Coed/Reverse-Coed (i.e. CR) tournaments, NO back row attacks will be allowed.
For ALL Reverse-Coed (i.e. RCO) tournaments, back row attacks will be allowed.
Last Year We Were Yelled At As A Work Team...
Championships may enforce many rules that every day Tournament Directors choose to be lax about. The most common example of this is that work teams WILL be penalized for being late for their assignments. For example you should show up before the warm-up period is over for referee instructions and make sure all of the work team roles are ready and in-place when the warm-up period ends.
Application of rules will apply to playing teams as well as work teams. For example the libero uniform must be contrasting to all members of the work team, not just the head referee (although it is the head referee that will make the final decision).
Can I Still Use Uniform Numbers From Past Years?
Uniform rules will follow the USAV Rulebook with current NERVA/Yankee exceptions. Examples of illegal uniforms include:
- Number on front of shirt is smaller than 4 inches in height
- Number on back of shirt is smaller than 6 inches in height
- Uniform numbers 0 or 00
- Numbers do not contrast with shirt color (e.g. dark number on dark shirt or light number on light shirt
- Taped-on number
- Number that can not be clearly picked out of the shirt design
It is important to note that it must be clear from many feet away (e.g. from the server to the head ref, or the outside
hitter to the scorekeeper), not just from a few feet away when you argue with the referees.
I'm Thinking Of Bringing A New Player In...
First, it should be noted that only full-time members can participate in Championships. This means that if someone played on a one-day membership in the past, they will need to pay again to join as a full-time member in order to play. True new members must also sign up for a full-time membership, even if they will only likely play in that one tournament.
Second, teams that go over the ratings limit for a team due to a re-rate of a new/re-ratable player will be DQ-ed. Teams that show up to the tournament already over the limit will not be able to play at all. Teams that begin playing and are later DQ-ed will be allowed to finish pool play, but they will not be allowed to break pool and play in playoffs, and none of their game records will be counted.
OK, enough already. When are they?
All tournaments will begin at 9:00 am
